With Senator Pat Leahy
A few minutes backstage with Senator Patrick Leahy (D-VT).
I presented the Senator with two concerts posters I designed for Rex Foundation's Tie-Dye Ball, featuring the Dark Star Orchestra and Zen Tricksters with Mickey Hart and Donna Jean Godshaux.

I've seen many surprising jams, but watching Senator Leahy jump on stage to Sen. Leahy joined Bobby Weir, Mickey Hart and David Nelson on Goin' Down the Road (Feelin' Bad).
with Trey Anastasio: pre-show backstage at Comes A Time at the Greek Theater, Berkeley.
One of the most awesome gatherings of talent. The 10 yr anniversary tribute to Jerry show, Comes A Time at Berkeley University (9/24/05).
We were in the open air backstage area at the Greek Theater, and everyone was getting it together. I was watching Bill Walton trying to put on a giant black robe for his spot in a gospel choir. I noticed Trey was standing next to me watching too..
Richie Havens at the Jammys
I was the creative director with Relix Magazine and had crazy access. The laminate around my neck allowed me to walk into MSG from the 32nd St & 8th Ave side door without anyone saying a word. I just strolled in off the street and 2 minutes later, was standing about 20 ft behind Richie Havens. He was furiously strumming away on "Freedom" and, after the smoke cleared, turned around to say hello. He asked where I lived, and when I said "Brooklyn" he smiled "I'm from Brooklyn too! I'm grew up in Brownsville" and threw his arm over my shoulder for the pic.

Minute Bol was at the Jammys
After the chance meeting with Richie Havens, I landed at the pre-show party and met Minute Bol. He seemed very quiet and fragile. He leaned heavily on his cane and slowly stood for this photo.
Mickey Hart and the Zen Tricksters
Iko-Iko. the after-show at the Society of Ethical Culture. I designed the concert poster for this one and had a ringside seat.

with Jorma at the Beacon after party
When Sandy Sochott (Pres., Rex Foundation) asked me to design a Hot Tuna poster, I had a flashback to being 17 and listening to Quah for the first time. Back then, I was obsessed with Jorma and Hot Tuna and would hit Bleeker Bob's each weekend snapping up every album - including all the Jefferson Airplane i could find.

with Jack Casady
I had met Jorma a few times but never approached the other half of Hot Tuna, Jack Casady. Jack was gracious and we chatted for a few minutes at the after party. He also signed the event poster (my 2nd for Hot Tuna at the Beacon).
With Bobby Weir at Rex Event
This was a pre-show meet and greet above the Beacon Hotel above the Theater (circa 2003).
Bob Dylan takes the stage
July 2003, Raceway 66, Joliet, Illinois. I was able to wind my way to the side of the stage and yelled, "How do you feel?" at Dylan as he took the stage. He answered with a thumbs up.

Later in the evening at Raceway 66, Dylan joined the Dead (with Joan Osbourne) on keyboards.
Steve Bernstein, Vinnie Amico, Chuck Garvey, me
Backstage at Bonnaroo (6/11/04) before moe hit the stage. I spent a bit of time with moe in Japan (June 2001) and caught my fair share of shows. This pic was moments before moe joined Umphrey's McGee on stage for a handoff jam.

with Donna Godshaux and Martin Fierro
This is backstage at the Gathering of the Vibes (2002). I had the good fortune to spend some time with Donna a couple years later at the Rex Foundation Dark Star Orchestra show in DC at the 9:30 club.
Martin was incredibly kind and jumped in for the pic. He's probably best known for playing sax and flute on the Dead’s 1973 album, Wake of the Flood and then being a regular member of the Saunders-Garcia band.
Steve Bernstein, Bill Walton, me, Ira Gottlieb
This was a Rex Foundation event (Dark Star Orchestra) at the Nokia Theater in Times Square. Steve and I had met Bill a few years before at the Comes A Time show at the Greek. This was pre-show - I tried to orchestrate a pic. I told Bill to stay there, grabbed Steve and the roaming photographer and just as he took the pic, Ira pulls in front to eclipse me.
Michael Kaluta, me, Charles Vess
At a MOCCA (Museum of Comic and Cartoon Art) event with two of my idols, Mike Kaluta & Charlie Vess, Spring 2004. I collaborated with Charlie on the event poster.
Both are legends in the comics industry, Mike for his original work on Starstruck and innovative approach to the Shadow, and Charles for his fantasy illustrations and breakthrough work on Sandman.
They were actually roommates for a time on the westside. My dad had met Mike at a party (back when I was in high school), and set up an intro. I visited their studio a few times and was a 16 year old fly on the wall watching the masters at work.
This event brought it all full circle.

Mick the Quick
Had the unbelievable opportunity to hang and watch a game with one of my heroes. Micky Rivers, at Yankee Stadium.
Jackie (the Joke-Man) Martling
I met Jackie at Syd Mandlebaum's Rock & Wrap It Up event at Yankee Stadium. Jackie had been a fixture on the Howard Stern show for years. During the game, I called a friend who was on the Board of Coney Island USA. After a brief intro, the wheels were in motion for Jackie being proclaimed King Neptune at the annual Mermaid Parade (June 2012).
